The Mill

The Mill is a collection of commercial, hospitality and office spaces in the industrial corridor of Santa Barbara. Designed and constructed over several years, the space is now home to a brewery, a winery, design center and the offices of the owner/design firm who conceived the project.
Arcadia Studio worked closely with the owner to help imagine how the disparate pieces of an old wooden warehouse could be recreated as a vital urban shared-use center with a rural character and hip vibe. The resulting landscape design uses weathered wood, concrete, steel and local stone as the defining materials for a site that creates a rustic farm aesthetic throughout. Arcadia also helped design the courtyard spaces to accomodate ever changing programming and use. Large repurposed industrial steel planters can be moved with forklifts to create a variety of spaces. The steel boxes also allow the brewery to easily experiment with new plant varieties. The simple planting instills and agricultural feel.
